Maintenance work on Series 0 of Plant 2 for gasification and Plant 1 for ethylene glycol in the Yongcheng Industrial Park has been fully launched. As the first-phase ethylene glycol plant has been operating continuously for a long period, the company decided to conduct a comprehensive ‘check-up’ on it. Due to the complex equipment pipelines and the fact that the sodium hydride unit is still in operation, posing safety risks, Plant 1 for ethylene glycol has strengthened safety controls during maintenance activities. During the operation of the ethylene glycol cycle hydrogen compressor C301, abnormal readings were frequently observed for parameters such as unit temperature and vibration. Taking advantage of this valuable short shutdown period, the electrical and instrumentation plant carried out a disassembly and inspection of the unit. The PSA unit at Ethylene Glycol Plant No. 1 has a total of 152 programmable valves, and due to long periods of operation, some of these valves have become stuck. Taking into account the existing problems and the difficulties associated with online processing, Plant 1 for ethylene glycol decided to disassemble and inspect more than 80 valves. During the shutdown inspection, Plant 2 for gasification discovered that a water-cooling wall tube in the quench tank of the gasifier had been worn through. The coal burner is the core of the gasification furnace and plays a vital role in the production process; however, due to operating in a high-temperature environment of over 1000 degrees Celsius for extended periods, it is prone to failures. Before stopping the machine, the process personnel noticed frequent replenishment of cooling water to the coal burner, indicating a leak. After parking and checking, it was confirmed that the four burners indeed had cracks of varying degrees.
