In old ammonia synthesis plants, the exhaust from safety valves was discharged directly into the atmosphere; however, due to current environmental regulations, measures need to be taken. Since there are no ammonia flaring systems available, what is an appropriate method for addressing this issue?

It is recommended to add overhead drainage tanks equipped with spray water to prevent environmental pollution or personal injury caused by the release of large amounts of ammonia; alternatively, it can be discharged into an accident containment tank for absorption. This is just my personal opinion!
Using the accident tank as a solution is only a temporary measure; it certainly won’t work in the long run. Nowadays, all types of wastewater treatment systems need to be fully enclosed, which also presents a problem. Has anyone ever tried to combine it in a spray tower? What was the result?
If a complete solution is desired, then adding a torch is certainly necessary. For the spray tower, it is important to calculate the amount of ammonia that leaks; generally, spray towers are designed for vent gases. I haven’t heard of safety valves being used in spray towers yet, but the investment required for such a tower is also considerable
