The 10th Symposium on the Development of the Fertilizer Industry in Six Provinces – Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, and Anhui – was held recently in Taiyuan, Shanxi. The conference reached a consensus that the fertilizer industry should strive toward high-quality transformation and development by relying on independent innovation, optimizing its industrial structure, pursuing green and low-carbon development, meeting the demands of the high-quality market, building first-class industrial chains, and enhancing its competitiveness. Zhao Jungui, vice president and secretary-general of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, pointed out that the development environment for the fertilizer industry is now more complex, and companies need to place greater emphasis than ever on making breakthroughs in core technologies and strengthening their capabilities in independent innovation. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the fertilizer industry must seize the significant opportunity presented by the upgrading of consumption in the end markets, and make efforts in four areas: First, it is necessary to pursue a path of high-quality independent innovation ； Second, it is necessary to adhere to a development approach centered on green and low-carbon transformation ； Third, it is necessary to target the high-end market to meet the demands of the market for high-quality products ； Fourth, it is necessary to enhance industry self-discipline, strengthen industry coordination capabilities, build first-class industrial chains, and effectively promote the high-quality transformation and development of the industry. Zhang Liping, president of the Shanxi Chemical Industry Association, said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shanxi’s chemical industry, particularly the fertilizer sector, should aim to strengthen industrial chains and reduce losses, while also improving quality and efficiency. Driven by technological innovation, led by key enterprises, and supported by major projects, the focus should be on enhancing the industry’s foundational capabilities and extending its industrial chains. Efforts should be made to upgrade gasification technologies, adjust and optimize the product mix, develop clusters of carbon-based material industries, explore new ways for the clean and efficient use of coal, and continuously improve standards in terms of safety, environmental protection, and energy conservation. At the same time, she hopes that through the joint efforts of the associations in various provinces, the sharing of information and technical resources can be further promoted, so as to serve as informants, supporters, and guides for the development of the industry. Yang Chunsheng, senior advisor to the Shandong Fertilizer and Coal Chemical Industry Association, explained that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Shandong’s fertilizer industry will adhere to the principle of equal or reduced replacement, strictly controlling the total capacity for fertilizer production. It will also focus on improving the efficiency of fertilizer use by developing new types of functional fertilizers and implementing initiatives to reduce fertilizer use while increasing its effectiveness. Additionally, the industry will pursue a strategy that combines fertilizer production with other related activities, scientifically expanding the product range to achieve complementary development through both approaches. Hou Qianrong, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Henan Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, mentioned that in order to actively pursue the implementation of the \"dual carbon\" goals, Henan established an Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Promotion Committee under the Henan Petrochemical Association. This committee, together with various universities, research institutions, enterprises, and financial institutions, has formed a carbon neutrality industry alliance to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the industry. Ji Yungong, secretary-general of the Anhui Chemical Industry Association, noted that Anhui is launching the \"3210\" industry development initiative, whereby the metallurgy and chemical industries will develop 2 industrial chains worth 500 billion yuan each, 10 industrial chains worth 100 billion yuan each, and several additional industrial chains worth 10 billion yuan each. Taking this as an opportunity, Anhui’s chemical industry, including the fertilizer sector, will strengthen park-based support and be driven by the ‘four innovations’ to embark on a new journey. Bai Yanqi, executive president of the Hebei Province Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association and president of the Hebei Province Sulfuric Acid and Phosphorus Compound Fertilizer Industry Association, said that the fertilizer industry should place greater emphasis on environmental protection in order to achieve a circular economy and green development ； It is necessary to fully utilize new energy-saving technologies to drive progress in industrial technology; innovate the development of efficient and environmentally friendly fertilizers, strive to achieve environmental sustainability, and ensure food security ； It is necessary to carry out transformation and upgrading, optimize resource allocation, phase out outdated technologies, and develop high-quality production capacity. Qin Zhiqiang, honorary president of the Jiangsu Fertilizer Association, believes that the fertilizer industry should adhere to innovation-driven and green, high-quality development, fully embrace the broader trends of the new round of global industrial transformation, improve the technical standards of the industry, enhance its competitiveness, and promote sustainable development within the sector. In particular, enterprises must possess strong innovation capabilities, placing innovative development at the forefront of future technologies, in line with the demands of end-market consumers, within the framework of sustainable green development that emphasizes safety and environmental protection, through the clean and efficient use of traditional energy sources as well as technological breakthroughs in new energy sources, and by integrating closely with advanced digital and intelligent technologies. This conference was jointly organized by the Shanxi Chemical Industry Association, the Hebei Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, the Hebei Sulfuric Acid and Phosphate Compound Fertilizer Industry Association, the Shandong Fertilizer and Coal Chemical Industry Association, the Henan Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, the Jiangsu Fertilizer Association, and the Anhui Chemical Industry Association, with the Shanxi Chemical Industry Association serving as the organizer. More than 230 representatives from relevant enterprises in over 20 provinces across the country attended the conference. During the conference, 27 companies including Xinlianxin, Hualu Hengsheng, and Lu’an Huahong shared their technologies and products, covering areas such as equipment manufacturing, energy conservation and environmental protection, digitalization and industrial integration, as well as management innovation.
