On August 11, accompanied by the rumbling sound of excavators at work, the green methanol project located in the Wulat Houqi Industrial Park officially commenced construction. According to Yu Litao, vice president of Xi’an LONGi Clean Energy Co., Ltd., green methanol is a globally recognized new type of clean and renewable energy source. It features efficient combustion, low emissions, and renewability; it is often referred to as \"liquid sunlight.\" Currently, it is primarily used as a clean alternative fuel in the shipping industry, helping to reduce the costs associated with increased carbon emissions while also lowering those emissions themselves. “Ulaat Houqi boasts abundant natural resources and low costs for green electricity, enabling large-scale economic power generation. There is an abundance of local agricultural biomass such as sunflowers and corn, which enables the low-cost acquisition of carbon dioxide as a raw material, providing a foundation for the development of the subsequent green methanol production chain. The green methanol project that is starting operations now has a total investment of 2.365 billion yuan. It combines wind, solar power and green hydrogen production with biomass gasification technology; 100% green hydrogen is generated through water electrolysis. At the same time, carbon dioxide is captured from the gasification of agricultural waste, and green methanol is produced via catalytic synthesis. This project can process over 600,000 tons of green biomass resources per year, producing 400,000 tons of green methanol annually, which will generate an annual output value of 2 billion yuan. Once the project reaches full capacity, it will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 1.2 million tons per year; this will help minimize pollution from straw burning, while also producing 400,000 tons of carbon-free methanol to replace traditional fuels. It will also lead to an expansion of wind and solar capacity by 1.05 GW, stimulate the development of hydrogen energy equipment manufacturing and the green chemicals industry chain, and create 1,000 new jobs, both directly and indirectly.
