Full-scale production of synthetic ammonia from natural gas in Xinghua, Shaanxi has been resumed

According to Shaanxi Xinghua Group, at 21:10 on March 1, 2026, the ammonia synthesis unit of the old system’s Phase II successfully started operating； At 3:25 a.m., the natural gas flow rate to the conversion unit in the gas production center returned to 22,000 m3/h. With this, the old natural gas-based ammonia synthesis system officially entered full-capacity operation mode, accelerating the resumption of production activities. In accordance with the company’s requirements for ensuring supply continuity, on February 11, the natural gas flow in the old system was reduced to 10,500 m3/h. The first-stage decarburization unit, the second-stage synthesis unit, and Unit 2 of the air separation plant were shut down as planned, and the old system entered a low-load operation mode. As downstream enterprises using ammonium nitrate resumed operations one after another, the company’s ammonia processing system also started up again. On February 24, the nitro products division brought the second-phase ammonium nitrate production facility online, and on February 27, it completed the ignition of Furnace A in Phase 6, providing strong support for full-capacity production across the entire system. The old ammonia synthesis system in Xinghua, Shaanxi, uses natural gas as raw material and features two production lines. It employs a two-stage conversion process with pure oxygen for ammonia synthesis, and then uses ammonia as a raw material to produce nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, nitro-based compound fertilizers, and other products. Both sets of ammonia synthesis plants have a capacity of 125,000 tons per year.
