According to a report from Gansu Huating Coal Industry Company in April 2026, Huamei Qingneng Coal Chemical Company plans to build two new space furnaces (with a pressure of 6.5 MPa), each capable of handling 2,000 tons of coal per day, along with corresponding coal powder preparation systems, in order to increase methanol production and improve production efficiency. In addition, building on the existing methanol production processes, research is being conducted on projects for producing synthetic ammonia and urea through side streams; by adding such side stream systems, it is possible to increase the production volume of various products, break away from the reliance on a single product type, and expand profit opportunities. According to a report by the Pingliang Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology in November 2025, it is planned to transfer the 520,000-ton urea production capacity of CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical Company to Pingliang City. Pingliang City held discussions with Huating Coal Industry Group and Gansu Energy and Chemical Investment Group regarding project cooperation. Once the investor is identified, the transfer of production capacity quotas is completed and project construction begins. Huamei Qingneng Coal Chemical Company, part of Gansu Huating Coal Industry Group, uses multi-feed slurry gasification, wide-temperature sulfur-tolerant shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, super Claus sulfur recovery, and Casali IMC methanol synthesis to produce 600,000 tons of methanol per year. At the end of 2021, a 200,000-ton polypropylene plant was built using the FMTP technology jointly developed by Sinochem, Tsinghua University, and Huaohua Group; this was China’s first fluidized-bed methanol-to-propylene plant. Thereafter, system optimization and rectification were carried out, and polypropylene production resumed in 2023 after the rectification.
