In a batch reactor with complete mixing, the conversion rate of the reactants reaches 98% after 2 hours of reaction. However, to reduce the remaining amount of reactants to below 0.5%, an additional 6 hours are required. Since this extra time is undesirable, what methods can be employed to shorten the overall reaction time while still meeting the requirement of keeping the residual reactant level at 0.5% or less? What considerations can be taken into account regarding the reaction process equipment?
Consider measures to promptly remove the reaction products; for instance, employing a reactive distillation process to remove them via distillation can facilitate the continuous progression of the reaction, improve the conversion rate of raw materials, and reduce any residues
The reaction itself is not the issue; the key lies in mass transfer, that is, mixing, for which a loop reactor configuration can be used. It enables instantaneous micro-mixing.
