Each phase has specific objectives, deliverables, and activities. The details for each stage are as follows: 1. Pre-FEED (Pre-Front End Engineering Design) – Front-end engineering design. Objective: Conduct preliminary research to assess the feasibility of the project and determine its scope. Main activities: - Preliminary evaluation of technical and process options. - Initial cost estimation and budgeting. - Identify potential risks and mitigation strategies. - Stakeholder participation is used to gather needs and expectations. Deliverables: advanced project scope, feasibility study, preliminary cost estimate, and risk assessment. 2. FEED (Front-End Engineering Design): Objective is to develop more detailed design and engineering plans, serving as a bridge between Pre-FEED and the detailed engineering. Main activities: - Detailed design studies of processes, equipment, and systems. - Develop project specifications and engineering documents. - Comprehensive cost estimate and timeline. - Finalize the procurement strategy and identify long-cycle projects. Deliverable: FEED package, including detailed engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project execution plan. 3. Detailed Engineering Objective: Create the final design documents required for construction and implementation. Main activities: - Developing detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. - Finalize the construction methods and project plan. - Coordination among various engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.). - Resolve any design changes or modifications identified during the FEED phase. EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) Objective: To execute a project by carrying out engineering design, procurement of materials and equipment, and construction activities. Main activities: - Engineering design: Conducting detailed engineering designs to build the project. - Procurement: Purchasing all necessary materials, equipment, and subcontracted services. - Construction: Manage the actual construction of the project to ensure quality control and compliance with safety standards. - Debugging: Testing and adjusting systems and devices to ensure they meet specific requirements. For some projects, there is a Concept Design stage before the pre-FEED stage. The corresponding domestic phases are: conceptual design, technical feasibility study, engineering feasibility study, preliminary design, and construction drawing design; the first three of these are collectively referred to as “design proposal” in other industries.
