Main standard specification: \"General Rules for the Storage of Hazardous Chemicals in Warehouses\" GB15603-2022. There are three storage methods: isolated storage, separated storage, and distinct storage. Isolated storage: a storage method in which different items are placed at a certain distance apart within the same room or area, with passages used to maintain space between items that are not prohibited from being stored together. Separated storage: A storage method in which items with different restrictions are kept apart from each other using partitions or walls, within the same building or area. Separate storage: A storage method in different buildings or different rooms within the same building. 1. Isolated storage: This refers to the way in which different items are stored within the same room or area. It is the different items themselves that are considered here, not items of different categories; it is still necessary to take into account any restrictions regarding these items ; Therefore, whenever two or more items are to be stored in the same room or area, spaces must be provided between them through passages; the width of these passages should comply with the requirements specified in Table A.1, the table for storing hazardous chemicals: For items marked with “⭕”, a distance of at least 1 meter should be maintained between stacks, so as to prevent the two types of items from coming into contact ; ⑵“Items of different types should be stored together, with a distance of over 2 meters between stacks. Therefore, isolated storage essentially uses channels to create a spatial isolation (a virtual space within a room). 2. Separate storage: This refers to the way in which different items are stored within the same building or area. It differs from storage in separate rooms; here, it is about entire buildings, which provide a larger space. Separate storage is primarily aimed at meeting the storage requirements for different items with specific contraindications ; In accordance with the requirements in Table A.1, the Storage and Arrangement Table for Hazardous Chemicals: different prohibited items marked with “×” or “Eliminate” must be stored separately ; The separation measure should be a partition or wall; in practice, this partition or wall must be made of materials with the appropriate fire resistance rating, depending on the fire classification of the warehouse. In my opinion, it isn’t necessary to create a completely enclosed room for separation – it is sufficient to create an independent space that ensures physical separation between the two types of items (different physical areas within one room). 3. Separate storage: This refers to the methods of storage in different buildings or in different rooms within the same building; stricter requirements apply here, and it is related to the storage of items that require special storage conditions (in different rooms within one building). Table A.1, the table for the storage arrangement of hazardous chemicals, does not specify which types of substances need to be stored separately. However, Articles 5.9 and 5.10 of GB15603 require separate storage for certain special substances: Article 5.9 of GB15603 states that highly toxic chemicals, flammable gases, oxidizing gases, acutely toxic gases, substances and mixtures that release flammable gases when in contact with water, chlorates, permanganates, nitrites, sodium peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, and bromine should be stored separately. GB15603 Article 5.10: … Highly toxic chemicals, as well as those that pose a significant hazard, shall be stored separately in dedicated warehouses, with a system of two persons being responsible for receipt and dispatch, and two persons in charge of storage. It can be seen that, except for items under the special conditions specified in Articles 5.9 and 5.10 of GB15603, as well as those such as those prone to explosion or drug production that require separate storage due to special control requirements from public security or other authorities, other items can meet the standards and regulations by being stored in isolation or separately.
