I would like to ask about exothermic reactions and the selection of refrigerants: under what circumstances is chilled brine used, and under what circumstances is circulating water used? Are there any regulations regarding this?~
Depending on the operating conditions, saline is usually not needed if circulating water can be used; saline is employed when the circulating water is insufficient for cooling. Some heat exchangers are connected to both types of fluids, allowing for switching based on the cooling requirements.
In the case of heat release, the role of circulating water is to carry away the heat; circulating water is sufficient, and there is no need to use low-temperature brine. Low-temperature brine is generally used in the cooling and compression processes of chlorine and ammonia.
If the process requires a cooling temperature lower than the feed water temperature of your circulating water, then you should consider using low-temperature chilled brine.
What is the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of that frozen saline?
It depends on the operating conditions of your specific process design.
I currently have a reaction that generates a large amount of heat; it is necessary to maintain a temperature of 5 degrees in the reaction vessel, and cold saline is used to remove this heat. I have set the temperature at the inlet and outlet of the saline to 10 degrees. The calculated heat exchange area exceeds the area of the jacket surrounding the reaction vessel. Should I increase the temperature difference?

Given your temperature requirements, it’s clearly not possible to use circulating water, as the temperature of circulating water is usually above 30 degrees at the lowest. Therefore, cooling brine or antifreeze must be used. If the calculated area is larger than the area of the jacket, the only way to improve the situation is by reducing the inlet temperature.
