Subcooled LNG (around -155°C) is used to condense BOG (around -10°C, mainly methane), with an operating pressure of 0.7 Mpag. 2. Condensation takes place in the packing section of the regenerator. 3. The mass ratio of LNG to BOG is approximately 8, and this value remains relatively constant. The LNG flow rate will be adjusted according to the BOG flow rate. BOG is sent from the compressor to the recondenser, with a load range of 25%-200% (25% load for a single compressor – 100% load for two compressors). Questions: 1. Within the load range of 25%-200%, should the packing be arranged in an orderly manner or in a loose pile? 2. Currently, both arranged in a loose pile and in an orderly manner are used in China, but each party insists that its method is the correct one. Theoretically, just theoretically, which form is better? Thank you

Firstly, the range of load variations in your system is too large; the difference between the high and low flow rates of the material inside the condenser is significant, which places very high demands on the permeability and uniform distribution capabilities of the packing. Secondly, regarding structured vs. random packing, structured packing has a lower processing capacity than random packing, but its ability to achieve uniform distribution is better, so it is still recommended that you choose structured packing
My previous question wasn’t specific enough; put another way, once flooding occurs, does random packing have an advantage over structured packing?
