What is the difference between explosion-proof walls and firewalls in building codes? ?
Firewalls only have requirements regarding fire resistance duration; ordinary brick walls generally also possess a fire resistance capacity of 1.5 to 2 hours. Different wall materials can be chosen depending on the technical requirements; Explosion-resistant walls are designed by first calculating the force of the explosion based on its distance from the source, and then determining the appropriate specifications for such walls. These walls are always made of reinforced concrete. As of yet, there are no domestic standards for calculating the parameters of explosion-resistant structures; only draft guidelines exist.
The difference between firewalls and blast walls: A firewall is a building that possesses certain fire resistance to prevent the spread of fire. An explosion-proof wall is a structure designed to protect certain areas, such as control rooms, living quarters, and temporary shelters, from pressure impacts; it is capable of absorbing or blocking the shock waves generated by explosions. Therefore, there is no inherent connection between blast walls and fire separation distances. Explosion-proof walls provide only limited compensation for fire separation distances, and they are referenced in only a few codes, such as those for civil explosives and fireworks. There are very few such regulations elsewhere.
