I have a set of reaction apparatus here that produces hydrogen sulfide gas, in relatively large quantities. The exhaust gases can be absorbed using liquid alkali, but is there any demand for the substances that are generated? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Claus furnace system compared to alkaline absorption? Which expert can explain this?
What is the substance produced? Sulfur?
For the transfer of pollutants, producing sulfur and sulfuric acid is the definitive solution.
I currently only want to use an alkaline absorption method to remove hydrogen sulfide from exhaust gases; I don’t want to use a Claus furnace. Is this acceptable from the perspectives of safety and environmental protection?
Do you mean that there is no demand for the sodium sulfide and sodium hydrosulfide that are produced?
You need market research. In the early stage of waste gas treatment, alkali sulfide is in high demand and commands a high price. I’m not aware of the current market situation, but I’ve heard that caustic soda is hard to sell in some places.

The investment required to turn a liquid solution into crystals must be high, right? Is sodium sulfide profitable these days?
