I have just switched from the chemical industry to the pharmaceutical and electronics sectors, and I’m not very familiar with these industries yet (I told my boss that I could handle the work during the interview, hehe). I used to work in a chemical engineering design firm, where I was responsible for process/pipeline design. I’m not sure what standards and reference manuals are required in the pharmaceutical and electronics industries. I hope everyone can offer some suggestions; the more detailed, the better. I need to make purchases in a few days.
Has everything been going well for the original poster since they changed careers? I’m not sure which one is better; I’m facing the same problem right now and am still struggling to decide
It’s okay; I’m able to adapt for now. It seems that electronics and pharmaceuticals are simpler than the chemical industry

Hi, I too have shifted from the petrochemical industry to pharmaceutical design; it’s been 5 months now, and I’ve been working on process development.
The scope of work in the process engineering field of the pharmaceutical industry includes everything other than the tasks related to plumbing, heating, ventilation, and civil construction; it is a more comprehensive field compared to chemical engineering, but the level of detail in design is not as high as in chemical engineering. The commonly used standards are the latest version of GMP, the guidelines for designing clean facilities, and the standards for designing pharmaceutical clean rooms. Additionally, the latest version of the building codes is also utilized (mainly during the conceptual design phase); for process engineering, the first four chapters of these codes are often used, such as those related to fire compartmentation and classification of fire hazards. Compared to the chemical industry, the design workload for cleanroom air conditioning in the pharmaceutical electronics sector is extremely large.
