A friend asked me a question: their factory plans to install a gas-fired steam boiler with an evaporation capacity of around 5 t/h and operating at a pressure of approximately 6.0 MPa. The high-pressure steam is used in the high-temperature hydrolysis stage of the production process. Is it necessary to install a superheater? I personally don’t think it’s necessary, but I don’t know much about high-pressure gas burners with low evaporation rates. Could some expert please explain this? Thank you!

It is recommended to start from three aspects: first, whether it is required on the user side that overheating occur, and the degree of overheating should be specified or a range provided; Secondly, the steam supply parameters of the steam-generation equipment must correspond to the steam consumption parameters, and on this basis, the exhaust smoke temperature should be reduced as much as possible ; Third, consider the entire plant as a whole in order to minimize fuel consumption as much as possible.
It is recommended to install it to improve overall efficiency; just consider the cost-performance ratio
Whether it is necessary to add a steam superheating section is determined primarily based on whether the steam users require superheated steam or saturated steam. In fact, the temperature of saturated steam at 6.0 MPa is around 276°C, so increasing the superheating section of the steam has little effect on reducing the flue gas temperature of the boiler. Reducing the boiler exhaust temperature, improving thermal efficiency, and meeting the energy efficiency requirements specified in the energy assessment report rely primarily on the convective sections that preheat the boiler feedwater and the air entering the furnace to recover heat from the flue gases.
