For existing mineral processing plants that need to build a nitric acid tank area, is it necessary to install an accident pond? Is there any evidence? Article 6.6.1 of GB50483-2009 states that chemical production projects should be equipped with emergency accident ponds. Does this refer to projects classified according to the entire enterprise, or does it mean that a project for constructing nitric acid storage areas falls under the category of chemical production projects? Additionally, in areas where hazardous chemicals are used, can standard GB50483 be applied?
Any chemical processing facility must be equipped with an accident tank. The function of this tank is to prevent employee poisoning and fire accidents in the event of liquid leaks during production or in case of an emergency power outage that stops operations. Any liquid that cannot be discharged after being diluted with fire-fighting water must be collected in this accident tank, and then transported to a location designated by the environmental protection authorities for harmless treatment.
I would like to ask: Is it necessary to have an accident pond for chemical processing projects? If a project only uses solid hazardous chemicals (such as asphalt) and does not use any liquid materials at all, is it still required to have an accident pond? Thank you
An accident tank is primarily used to hold fire-fighting water in the event of a fire, and there are specific calculation methods for this. For fire protection of liquid storage tanks, the capacity of the accident tank needs to take into account the amount of process materials stored. In the case of solid hazardous materials, an accident tank is still necessary; however, there is no need to consider the amount of process materials when determining the tank’s capacity.
As long as it is a chemical product, whether solid or liquid, an accident tank is required. Another function of this tank is to hold the oils and lubricants used for cleaning equipment during maintenance; such fluids, once spilled on the ground, are cleaned with water and then discharged into the accident tank through the plant’s sewer system for sedimentation.
