Firstly, the pressure of the steam can be controlled through a safety valve; Additionally, the design pressure of the equipment shall be no lower than the set pressure of the safety valve. There is then no need to install a safety valve on the equipment side.
There are no regulations or requirements mandating the installation of safety valves. It mainly depends on your operational requirements; if there is a risk of overpressure that could harm the equipment, then pressure control systems, overpressure alarms, safety valves, and other such devices should be installed.
If all 3 containers are continuously fed with steam, only one safety valve needs to be installed on the steam main; If gaps are used, it is best to install a safety valve on each container separately, mainly to ensure pressure relief in the event that both the inlet and outlet valves close simultaneously during a fire accident.

A pressure relief valve should also be installed on the branch pipes that lead into the container. Taking three reaction kettles as an example, since steam enters the jackets of these kettles from the main pipe, safety valves must be installed in the jackets; meanwhile, pressure relief valves should be placed on the branch pipes that lead from the main pipe to the jackets. This is the reasonable approach. What the original poster mentioned – that there is a safety valve on the main pipe – is used to regulate the pressure in that pipe, and it has no direct relation to the three containers ; Generally, the steam pressure in the main pipe is relatively high, while there are specific requirements for the steam pressure in the equipment (vessels). A safety valve is installed on the container to prevent accidental overpressure.
