For high-risk processes involving reactions at atmospheric pressure, with exhaust gases being discharged through pipelines connected to exhaust treatment devices, is it still necessary to install safety valves or other relief measures?
Is the exhaust treatment device turned off? If not, it can be omitted (provided the size of the exhaust pipe is sufficient)
The exhaust system is kept running continuously without being turned off; however, safety valves are required by the regulations for high-risk processes, which seems unreasonable to me

In my humble opinion, even if the exhaust gas treatment system does not have a shut-off valve, a safety valve should still be installed. For example, in the event of a sudden power outage or if the control valves for the reactor or the cooling water system lose control, it is very likely that the reactor will experience overpressure; without such a safety device, it’s like having a time bomb!

If not, or when considering it purely theoretically, it is a matter of discharge volume. Whether it’s a safety valve, a burst disc, or even something that’s simply left open as you mentioned, the key issue is that it must be able to allow for emergency release in the event of excessive temperature or pressure.
