Hello everyone, we have encountered some differences regarding the process design: the mixed phase generated by the upstream reactants consists of a heavy phase that is 55% sulfuric acid along with other substances; its specific gravity is 1.45, and its weight percentage is approximately 10%. The light phase, which is dichloromethane with a specific gravity of 1.33, enters a stratified tower; the light phase exits from the top of the tower, while the heavy phase exits from the bottom via an inverted U-shaped structure. Separate the two phases. Here comes the question: does the mixture enter from the two-phase interface, or from above that interface? Please help with the class schedule, experts. Thank you
It’s possible to enter through the layered interface. But a “layered tower”? When we talk about a tower, we generally mean one with a high length-to-diameter ratio, in other words, a slender shape. For the separation of liquid-liquid phases, especially static separation relying on gravity, it is unreasonable to design the separator as elongated! ! Because two-phase separation requires not only volume (residence time), but more importantly, a certain separation area. We currently have hundreds of liquid-liquid static separation units in use, which are efficient and take up little space.
Is it a single separator, or are there trays? When you mention a tower, it seems to refer to a separator; is there any contact between the gas and liquid phases inside the container, or is it a single-step separation?
