Aromatic hydrocarbon storage tanks cannot be equipped with a nitrogen sealing system; I’ve heard that some can be fitted with gas collection hoods. What is the effectiveness of such hoods?
Don’t all storage tanks have nitrogen sealing? Why can’t aromatic hydrocarbon storage tanks be equipped with nitrogen sealing?
For general aromatic compounds, such as benzene-based materials stored in tanks, heating is required; it is not possible to use a nitrogen blanket. The common practice is to install a gas collection hood on the top of the tank, with pipes leading from this hood to a water tank outside the bottom of the tank. It dissolves and dilutes the volatile gases like water, preventing toxic gases from being released into the atmosphere and causing pollution.
Why can’t nitrogen sealing be applied after heating?
The storage tank has been in service for a long time and is constantly in operation, making it impossible to conduct strength tests; therefore, the design institute refuses to provide a nitrogen seal design: lol

It’s not just a VOC issue here, right? Without a nitrogen seal, is air being added when discharging from the storage tank? In the absence of a nitrogen seal, it is generally possible to install balance pipes to prevent the uncontrolled release of VOC gases. It seems like the gas collection hood can’t solve any problems
