As the title suggests, for a hydrogen station that uses pressure swing adsorption for separation, should the fire-fighting water volume be determined in accordance with petrochemical regulations? According to the petrochemical regulations, the flow rate should be at least over 100 L/S, but the fire-fighting water flow rate designed for my facility before was only 60 L/S. It can’t be satisfied. The question now is: must the fire-fighting water demand for hydrogen stations be determined in accordance with petrochemical regulations? Since this hydrogen station is located within a petrochemical complex, the fire separation distances used meet the requirements of petrochemical regulations.
Which one is the bottom-line issue? Otherwise, a fire-fighting water supply is required
These regulatory bodies and experts have really messed up the market; whenever people talk about how things should be implemented, they keep referring to petrochemical standards. Well, it depends on what kind of facility you have – if you’re not a petrochemical company, why should you follow petrochemical standards? In that case, what’s the use of construction codes and standards? The petrochemical industry involves large quantities of hazardous materials, operates under high temperatures and pressures, and requires continuous operation; therefore, the standards for this industry are established based on these characteristics. Other chemical industries don’t fit within the definitions provided by such codes. For example, there are differences between facilities and plants, between the maximum land area required for a facility and the fire compartmenting requirements for a plant, as well as differences in the classification of substances into fire hazard categories A, B, and C (petrochemical standards only recognize categories A, B, and C). Trying to apply the strictest codes in such situations is nonsensical; yet that’s exactly what happens – people ignore the codes and act recklessly~~~

It’s not very good to use water for fire fighting at hydrogen stations
The gas catches fire and burns steadily; cut off the gas supply and cool down the nearby equipment. When the air supply is cut off, the fire goes out. If you extinguish the fire, flammable gases will continue to leak out and could explode.
