On April 9th, the first industrial pilot plant for the lightweighting of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, developed by Liaoyang Petrochemical Company, was brought online successfully on the first attempt. The LYPAT-1 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon conversion catalyst used in this device was also developed independently by Liaoyang Petrochemical, marking a solid step forward for the company in accelerating the translation of scientific research results and advancing efforts to improve quality and efficiency. In recent years, as domestic PX production capacity has been released on a large scale, the PX industry has shown a clear trend toward low profits, putting significant pressure on Liaoyang Petrochemical’s traditional aromatic hydrocarbon production chain, which is focused on increasing PX output. To cope with the changes in the domestic aromatic hydrocarbon industry landscape, Liaoyang Petrochemical proposed a strategy for the high-value conversion of the entire carbon chain of aromatic hydrocarbons. It has developed a series of proprietary technologies, including efficient benzene production methods, conversion of mixed aromatics, conversion of polycyclic aromatics, and dehydrogenation of heavy aromatics, thereby achieving innovative technological solutions for the efficient utilization of aromatic hydrocarbon resources. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon conversion technology is a key component of high-value-added conversion technologies for the entire carbon chain of aromatics. Technical calibration data show that this technology not only features a short process flow but also enables efficient utilization of low-quality aromatics derived from naphthalene. The key catalyst performance indicator, namely the conversion rate of polycyclic aromatics, is greater than 50%, while the selectivity for the target product is above 85% – both values exceeding the expected targets.
