For steam control valves, Stellite is generally used for cladding the internal components. My question is: is it necessary to use Stellite for cladding the components of stop valves as well? I believe that during the regulation process of the control valve, especially at low opening degrees, the scouring effect of steam on the internal components of the valve is significant; therefore, Stellite cladding is required to extend the valve’s service life. A shut-off valve is either closed or open; the flushing force is high at the moment it is opened, but it can be low at other times. Therefore, such a valve only needs to be able to withstand high temperatures, and there is no need to use Stellite for cladding. I would appreciate any advice from fellow sailors!

I need to live up to the expectations of my clients; it’s my responsibility to ensure that the valves I provide are the right ones. I want customers to come to me again in the future, rather than turning to new customers after just one attempt. Am I clear?
No need; it seems that I’ve never seen cut-off valves for steam media with cemented carbide surfacing
Whether welding is applied or not has little impact on the price.
Generally, hard-sealed components require cladding, either with cemented carbide or through hardening treatment. Especially when steam contains water. As Lou said, surfacing itself is not expensive; it just requires a bit more processing procedures.
When the temperature is high, surfacing or some other hardening treatment is definitely necessary; it’s essential otherwise, as the switch won’t be able to function after just a few uses.
