I need a magnetostrictive level gauge for liquid ammonia as the medium, with a pressure of 1.3 MPa and operating at room temperature. The float of the level gauge should not be larger than 42 mm, and it should be suitable for use at liquid levels up to 3 meters deep. I have carried out liquid ammonia level measurements for the ammonia cooling system in our factory, and the results were good; there was little need for maintenance. Further information is needed regarding your operating conditions, mainly the installation method (top-mounted? Online installation? Issues with online maintenance? ), tank structure, etc

It is of top-mounted type with a DN50 flange; the inner diameter of the flange is at most 44–45 mm. Therefore, to facilitate installation and removal, the size of this float is required to be less than 44 mm. However, the pressure under operation is relatively high, so I’m wondering if there are any manufacturers that produce such products.
Sorry! What I said should be able to solve the problem; it doesn’t necessarily mean that magnetostriction has to be used. Our factory’s ammonia tanks previously used magnetostrictive devices for a while, but the results were poor: clogging occurred, and the floats attracted debris such as iron filings. Moreover, magnetostrictive online maintenance is difficult for this type of installation method. It was later changed to static pressure measurement (top-mounted) (level-pressure converter + pressure transmitter), and the results were quite good.
Actually, your question is simple if put that way: insert the magnetostrictive rod into the mounting hole, and fit the float over the magnetostrictive rod inside the tank; in this way the float can be enlarged. Anyway, it’s not possible to install it while the system is in operation. As for the malfunction, you can’t handle it online; it needs to be dealt with after the tank is stopped and removed. This type of installation inherently has such flaws; maintenance is not an option.
