As an example, for the control of a pump, there is an operation panel on site equipped with a local/remote control switch. It is required to have functions for starting and stopping the pump via DCS, as well as information on the pump’s operating status; there should also be a signal to stop the pump in case of a liquid level issue, and a signal from the SIS system to start the pump. How to achieve it
DI: Pump motor operation status, pump shutdown signals based on liquid level levels. DO: DCS remote start signal, DCS remote stop signal, interlock pump shutdown signal. The switch signals from the on-site control panel are sent directly to the electrical distribution cabinet. What remains are issues related to the configuration of the electrical distribution cabinet as well as the software and hardware setup of the DCS
It would be easier to achieve protection and on-site manual/automatic switching if a motor protector could be added!
Should the DO signal go to the field operation column or to the electrical cabinet?
I’ve never seen them go into the control column; they’re all in the electrical cabinet
This is possible; generally, the control of mechanical pumps is similar in most cases, aside from remote startup via SIS, and there are no significant difficulties in implementing it. It is not recommended to start ordinary pumps remotely, as operations on the inlet and outlet valves are still required; some pumps, such as magnetic pumps, can easily be damaged as a result.
