Colleagues in the instrumentation field, when measuring the flow rate of superheated steam using throttling devices, at what point do you generally consider temperature and pressure compensation? I have a project that is used only for zone measurement and does not participate in any control functions; I don’t plan to include temperature and pressure compensation. Is it okay?
If measurement is limited to the boundary range without any involvement in control, it is barely acceptable, but measurement errors will occur; it is recommended to perform temperature and pressure compensation. Generally, when measuring a single gas, only pressure compensation is necessary; for a single fluid, temperature compensation alone is sufficient to correct the flow rate based on density. However, superheated steam can be considered a type of single gas, and temperature as well as pressure compensation are required because it is necessary to account not only for changes in density but also for entropy in thermodynamics. Convert the superheated steam under actual operating conditions to a flow rate under standard operating conditions. When a certain medium is heated to a specified temperature, the amount of water vapor required varies depending on pressure, taking into account both weight and volume. Steam temperature and pressure compensation involves adjusting the amount of water vapor required at different pressures and temperatures so that it matches the amount required under standard conditions; it’s not simply a matter of converting mass or volume. If it is only used for general measurement, it’s fine to do without temperature and pressure compensation. However, if cost assessment among different departments is involved, it’s advisable to use temperature and pressure compensation, as this provides greater accuracy and avoids future problems

The temperature and pressure combined don’t exceed 1,000 units. Install it if it fits. In case of any issues, having the data will make things easier to handle
