Reference gas for Siemens infrared gas analyzers

For Siemens’ ULTRAMAT 6 infrared gas analyzer, with a range of 0–5 ppm CO2, what kind of gas is required for the range calibration and for zero-point adjustment? Is a reference gas needed? What is a reference gas?
I’ve never heard of U6 requiring the use of a reference gas. Conventional zero gas: 99.999% N2 ； Span gas: 4 ppm CO2 with N2, 8 L. If using a reference gas: 99.999% N2, 40L.
