In steam turbine units used in thermal power plants, online condition monitoring is referred to as TSI; common systems for this purpose include the Bentley 3500/3300 systems. Currently, some compressor units use MMS for online monitoring (the commonly used system is the MMS6000). Is there any substantial difference between the two? Is there any difference in the ways to access CCS, DCS, or DEH?
Compressors also come in Bentley versions; they are just products from different companies, but their function is the same. The ways to connect to DCS or DEH are generally communication or hardwiring.
Online monitoring of compressors – Bentley 3500 is also widely used… Whose system is the MMS6000? The communication from MMS to DCS is usually Modbus, while the interlock protection signals are wired directly to the SIS.
The MMS6000 was originally a product of a Philips subsidiary; it later became an independent company named epro, and its ultimate fate was to be acquired by Emerson. His achievements are mainly in power plants, with fewer in the chemical industry. In terms of safety and reliability, its performance is no worse than that of Bentley; the most illustrative example is that the TSI at Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant uses it.
There is no essential difference between the TSI used for monitoring shafting in power plants and the shafting monitoring systems used in the chemical industry; in the chemical industry, it is generally not referred to as TSI, and the speed control system is not called DEH either; It’s just an industry*-standard term, though. All the compressor shaft system instruments I have seen in chemical plants use the Bentley 3500 to communicate with the compressor control system or DCS for monitoring, with hard wiring to the SIS system via the 3500’s relay card.
MMS is the unit monitoring system, independent of 3500, which reads 3500 data via cable connection
