Do engineers developing SIS systems need a TUV certification?
Strictly speaking, it is necessary, but given China’s national conditions, it seems that few projects have such requirements
Theoretically, it is necessary, but in practice, the SIS systems that are developed are sufficient as long as they pass the certification process. Engineers need a TUV certification; once the required fees are paid and they complete their training, they are issued a certificate. Nowadays, the TUV certification for engineers is purely a formality – it’s essentially just paying to get a certificate.
It is necessary; it’s just that the standards in China aren’t as strict. However, large equipment suppliers have requirements in this regard – they demand relevant documents, and SIS is used to determine the SIL level for certain circuits. The client can also ask the supplier to send engineers with TUV-certifications to handle the design work. At Kangjisen, there are probably around 20 people who hold such certifications.
Certified security engineers seem to be mainly involved in conducting security level assessments of systems. The design of SIS systems is carried out by design firms based on patents or standards, after which instrument engineers review and finalize the design.
