Currently, our company is carrying out upgrades to the SIS system and environmental protection VOC systems as required by regulations, which necessarily involves the addition of things such as emergency shut-off valves (pneumatic) and pneumatic control valves. The question now is whether the daily testing, maintenance, and repair of these emergency shut-off valves, pneumatic control valves, etc., should be carried out by our Instrumentation and Automation team or by the Equipment team Now no one wants to take care of it; we’d like to hear everyone’s opinions. Usually, it’s the relevant specialty that is responsible for it. Another question: is it the electrical engineering department (in our company, the electrical engineering team has previously been responsible only for high-voltage systems) or the instrumentation and automation department that is in charge of the PLC modules in the control system?

Control valves should be maintained and managed by the instrumentation team, and the PLC of the control system should also be maintained and managed by the instrumentation team. Small PLCs specific to electrical equipment should be maintained and managed by the electrical department.
All pneumatic control valves fall under the instrumentation category.

This division of responsibilities varies from company to company. I know that some companies use a separate management approach: all control valves fall under the responsibility of the instrumentation department, while for isolation valves, only the electrical components are under the instrumentation department’s oversight, with the rest being managed by the maintenance department.
