I’m looking for a standard answer regarding why cold-junction compensation is necessary for thermocouples; my own understanding cannot be used as an answer
A thermocouple generates a thermoelectrical potential due to the temperature difference between its cold and hot ends. The dial indicator is calibrated based on a cold end at 0 degrees Celsius.
