I have a question for all of you: does a gauge pressure transmitter need to be recalibrated when used in different atmospheric pressures? Since the local atmospheric pressure varies, will failing to perform a zero calibration affect the measured values?
There is an impact, but the changes in atmospheric pressure are generally small; since it isn’t a precise measurement, re-calibration is not necessary. However, if higher accuracy in the measurement results is required, re-calibration is needed.
No need! No impact! As long as the ambient atmospheric pressure is introduced into the instrument housing, in one way or another, to the reference terminal of the gauge pressure sensor, then fluctuations in the ambient atmospheric pressure will have no impact whatsoever on the measured value. A gauge pressure sensor is a special case of a differential pressure sensor; it measures the pressure in the low-pressure chamber of the sensor, with this pressure required to be between 60 and 110 kPa in absolute terms. The gas fed into it is a non-conductive and non-corrosive gas, such as ambient air.
If high precision is required, it is best to calibrate it.
