Many platinum resistance thermometers (PT100) used in key locations on-site are of the dual-wire type, featuring two sets of outputs: one for operation and another as a backup. To what extent is this backup function utilized, and are the connection wires pre-connected as well? Connected to the controller? Switch directly to another set if one is broken? It’s only when one set used for work gets damaged that the backup set requires a connection cable. Are there any standard regulations regarding this? I would appreciate it if experienced experts could provide an answer; thanks in advance
I don’t see any mandatory regulations; if your connection is to the main controller, does it still count as a backup? Most of them are connected to explosion-proof junction boxes on site; when a problem occurs, measurements are taken and the wires are rerouted from those explosion-proof boxes to save costs

Connected to a transmitter with redundancy, it can automatically switch over in case of an error, and it also supports sequential display of signals. But everything has its pros and cons; for example, this product is expensive. Also, when using the same component in the same location, their lifespan should be similar, and the degree of drift should also be about the same; having an extra safety feature is therefore meaningful.
