The unit has a negative-pressure container with a pressure of -0.07. The liquid level in this container is usually kept at 40%. The level is measured using a local transmitter that features upper and lower flanges along with capillaries. Sometimes the level gets controlled above its maximum range; even though we try to pump out the excess liquid, it’s not possible to do so. When we open the container holding the level sensor, it’s empty, yet the display still shows 100% level. This phenomenon persists for quite some time, around 6 hours, or maybe even longer. It’s difficult to understand why this happens. This issue has occurred many times – whenever the level exceeds its maximum limit or reaches full capacity, this problem arises. The instrument suggests that the silicone oil inside the capillaries gets compressed and deforms, then slowly returns to its original state. But I find this explanation a bit far-fetched – does it really take that long for it to recover? Has this kind of phenomenon occurred with the vacuum gauges that everyone is using? I hope fellow sailors can give some guidance

Didn’t you understand? {:2_45:} Then let me explain: under vacuum conditions, the differential pressure reading obtained by those flanged capillary differential pressure gauges you use is not in a linear functional relationship with the pressure generated by the liquid column. Instead, both the pressure of the liquid column and the vacuum pressure depend on two independent variables. Consider these two equations: Y=kx+b and Y=(kx+b)+(k’x’+b’). The actual situation is even more complex than what the second equation suggests; the value of k’ isn’t a constant, but rather a time-dependent variable, k’(t). {:2_42:}
There are many problems with using double-flange gauges for measuring negative pressure; they are very difficult to use. I’ve encountered this issue many times before. It is recommended to replace them with float-type or flip-type level gauges that come equipped with a remote transmission function – their prices are not high.
