The purpose of installing current monitoring instruments in grinders

The grinder is equipped with a motor current monitoring instrument; an alarm at high levels triggers an emergency stop. Is this mainly intended to prevent the motor from burning out, or to prevent excessive rotation speeds that could lead to rapid heating and thus combustion? Which aspect does this focus more on? Are there any other factors I haven’t considered? I’d appreciate your advice
Doesn’t the motor’s control system already have overload protection? Is this current monitoring meant to provide an extra layer of safety?
Motor current monitoring is primarily aimed at preventing the motor from burning out. If the issue is excessive rotation speed, which leads to rapid heating and potential combustion, a speed meter or a temperature gauge can be used as a substitute, in my humble opinion
