Measurement is extremely important for various production sites and quality inspection departments. Photoelectric diameter gauges are primarily used in production sites to measure outer diameter dimensions; they are non-contact, non-destructive online inspection instruments. According to different classification methods, photoelectric diameter meters also fall into various categories. From different perspectives, measurement methods can be classified in various ways; common methods include contact measurement and non-contact measurement, which are distinguished by the way in which the object being measured is targeted. The photoelectric diameter meter uses optical measurement methods; the optical probe does not come into contact with the material being measured. This advantage lies in the ability to inspect materials that are in a molten state, at high temperatures, or prone to deformation. It also prevents wear on the materials and improves the accuracy of measurements. Individual measurement and comprehensive measurement: Individual measurement involves measuring each of the various parameters of a multi-parameter object separately, while comprehensive measurement involves assessing the overall parameters of that object. Diameter gauges usually measure only the outer diameter; however, by adding more probe sets, it is possible to detect ellipticity. Automatic measurement and non-automatic measurement: Automatic measurement refers to a measurement process that is carried out automatically or semi-automatically according to the procedures specified by the measurer. Non-automatic measurement, also known as manual measurement, is carried out under the direct operation of the measurer. The diameter tester is undoubtedly an automatic measuring device; it can also be equipped with a PID control system to achieve automatic closed-loop control of the outer diameter. It plays a very important role in high-quality production. Static measurement and dynamic measurement: A static measurement is one of a measured quantity whose value can be considered constant over a certain time interval. Dynamic measurement is a measurement carried out to determine the instantaneous value of the quantity being measured over time. A diameter measuring instrument can be used for both dynamic and static measurements, but it is usually installed on the production line, where it measures various parts of the rolled material as the line moves. Active measurement and passive measurement: Measurement during the product manufacturing process is considered active measurement, as it allows the processing process to be controlled based on the measurement results, thereby ensuring product quality and preventing the generation of defective products. Passive measurement is performed after the product has been manufactured; it cannot prevent defects from occurring, and can only identify and remove defective items as they are found. Optical diameter meters can actually achieve this; it depends on where the meter is installed. If it is placed in the area where finished products are measured, it operates in passive mode, while if it is installed at a point where dimensions can be controlled during the production process, it operates in active mode. According to various classifications, diameter measuring instruments can find their own place in use. But when it comes to determining which one is better, the measurement equipment used varies depending on the application scenario. Photoelectric diameter measuring instruments are primarily used in production lines for large-scale online inspections, playing an important role in ensuring high-quality production.
