As the title indicates: For a DN150 5.0MPa saturated steam pipeline network, which flow meter is better – a vortex flow meter, an orifice plate, or a V-cone flow meter? Please explain the reason. Thank you. Steam backflow generally does not occur in this pipeline; however, during long periods of shutdown, it is necessary to allow steam to flow back for a while in order to keep the equipment warm (up to once every 2 years). Will any of these three flow rates cause damage to the flow meter itself if such backflow occurs?
Backflow will have no impact and will not damage the flow meter; it is not recommended to use V-cones, as they are not standard and there is a risk of the high-pressure elements coming loose. Vortex flow meters and orifice plates are both viable options, with the choice for vortex flow meters depending on whether the flow rate is suitable for measurement at that diameter. It is best to choose a standard nozzle, as it has lower pressure loss compared to orifice plates, is less prone to deformation, and is less affected by wear of the throttling elements, making it more suitable for long-term use. some
I personally recommend elbow flow meters; if backflow is possible, an orifice plate differential pressure transmitter should be added, as elbow flow meters can measure flow in both directions. The differential pressure gauge is used to determine the direction of flow.
