Isn’t force equal to the area of application multiplied by pressure? Why multiply by the acceleration due to gravity?
In high school physics, pressure is equal to force divided by the area over which that force acts; it has nothing to do with gravitational acceleration, right?
Can someone who understands explain it? Could it be that if this cylinder is placed in space and subjected to air at a pressure of 0.55 Mpa, the piston will experience no force due to the absence of gravitational acceleration?
Come on, that cylinder of yours is meant to be used on Earth, right? You can’t use it in outer space where there’s no gravity at all – you can’t do any calculations there
The original poster confused force value with pressure. The force value refers to the gravity exerted on an object with a mass of 1 KG in a vacuum, under a gravitational acceleration of 9.80665 m/s²; its unit in the International System of Units is N. Force is usually measured by the weight of an object with a known mass at a certain point in a gravitational field; in such a field, Earth’s gravity causes the object to experience a gravitational acceleration, which results in a weight.
This post was last edited by jlshnlhj on 2020-10-2 09:03. Note that the gas pressure is 5.5 bar, and 1 bar = 0.1 MPa = 100 kPa = 1.0197162 kgf/cm². If 5.5 bar is directly substituted into the formula, then g is required; 1 bar = 10 Newtons per square centimeter (N/cm2).

By directly substituting 5.5 bar into the formula, it can be converted to 5.5xg (Newtons per square centimeter). When substituting 0.55 MPa into the formula, a conversion is also required, as the unit Pa is newtons per square meter.
Physical calculations require the standardization of units and dimensions. According to the MKS units (metre/kilogram/second), the unit of pressure is PASCAL (Pa). Since 1 Newton (N) = P (Pascal) x S (m2), you simply need to convert 5.5 BAR into pressure in PASCALS to obtain the result.
