Radar level gauges are easy to install, require minimal maintenance, and offer high performance. They are widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, chemicals, oil refining, cement, and pharmaceuticals. After installation, it is necessary to check whether the installation was done correctly – how should this be done? What precautions should be taken during use? Let’s learn together*: Overview of radar level gauges. Radar level gauges offer advantages such as low maintenance, high performance, high accuracy, great reliability, and a long service life. Compared to contact-type instruments such as capacitors and weights, it has unparalleled advantages. The transmission of microwave signals is not affected by the atmosphere, so it can meet the requirements of harsh environments such as volatile gases, high temperatures, high pressures, steam, vacuum, and high dust levels during manufacturing processes. This product is suitable for harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, vacuum, steam, high dust levels, and volatile gases. Continuous measurement of different material levels is possible. The main technical specifications of this instrument are on par with or superior to those of similar products available domestically and internationally. It is easy to install and configure, and can be used either individually or in a network setup. It can be widely applied in industries such as metallurgy, building materials, energy, petrochemicals, water resources, and agriculture. There are three detection methods for ensuring proper installation of radar level gauges. First, a site inspection is carried out to determine whether the actual operating conditions at the site are suitable for using the specific model of radar level gauge, and to verify that the installation location is correct and that the installation environment does not pose any issues for the proper functioning of the instrument, thereby avoiding failures that could affect its use. In addition to the radar level gauge, which requires on-site inspection, this task also needs to be carried out for all other instruments; it is a relatively basic requirement. Next, conduct a power-on check. Because after power is applied, it is possible to observe whether the radar level gauge proceeds through the normal startup procedure step by step and displays properly. Moreover, many unexpected occurrences happen because of power issues; or in some cases, there’s no power at all, so the instruments fail to function properly. If conditions at the site permit, it is also possible to observe whether the level gauge exhibits linear variation and other parameters by monitoring the material inflow and outflow. Immediately afterwards, a connection check is performed. This overlaps with on-site inspections, in that by connecting the appropriate software, it is possible to observe the linearity of the level gauge. Generally speaking, instruments with buttons can also perform this function. Users can also use specialized instruments to perform a connection check, thereby determining whether the radar level gauge is functioning properly. In addition to the methods mentioned above, there are many other ways to check the condition of a radar level gauge after it has been installed, so that the instrument can function properly and without affecting the work schedule. Instructions for Use of Radar Level Gauges: 1. When using this instrument outdoors, it is advisable to install a sunshade or protective enclosure to prevent the LCD screen from deteriorating due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. If used in an environment with corrosive gases, a corrosion-resistant cover must be installed, and the instrument’s outer casing as well as the input/output terminals must be tightened. When radar level gauges are used in environments with corrosive gases or liquids, or at seaside or on the ocean, anti-corrosion models need to be selected. 2. For wire and cable protection tubes, pay attention to sealing the radar level gauge to prevent water accumulation, as well as to stop rodents and other gnawing animals from damaging them. 3. Although the instrument itself is equipped with lightning protection components, when using the radar level gauge in areas with frequent lightning, it is recommended to install a dedicated lightning protection device at the instrument’s input and output terminals. 4. When the instrument is used in extremely hot or cold environments, where the surrounding temperature may exceed the operating requirements of the instrument, it is recommended to install devices to protect against high and low temperatures around the level gauge. 5. The radar must be perpendicular to the liquid surface being measured, and there must be no other obstacles within the conical range of the radar’s electromagnetic waves. 6. Radar level gauges are used in environments with dust, steam, fog, foam and floating objects on the liquid surface, as well as in situations where the liquid is agitated or subject to waves.
