Recently, the one-button sealed alkali replacement project for the PVC units’ alkali scrubber towers at Beiyuan Group’s chemical subsidiary was completed and put into operation. All 6 alkali scrubber towers can now undergo sealed alkali replacement with just one button press, taking a significant step forward toward achieving the company’s goal of \"replacing manual labor with machinery, reducing the need for human intervention through automation, and ultimately achieving fully automated operations without any human involvement.\" In the synthesis conversion system of the chemical subsidiary, the acidity in crude vinyl chloride is controlled by neutralization in an alkali scrubber tower. When the alkali solution in the alkali scrubber reaches saturation, it is necessary to replace it with fresh alkali solution promptly. If the alkali replacement is not carried out in a timely manner, it will not only cause corrosion to the equipment used in subsequent processes but also affect the stable operation of the process system. In the past, the process of replacing the alkali in the alkaline scrubber tower had to be carried out manually, involving tasks such as opening and closing valves, controlling the liquid level, and purging the pipes; each such replacement operation took about 2 hours. Furthermore, vinyl chloride dissolved in the alkali solution in the alkali dosing tank causes the gas alarm to trigger frequently, resulting in many inconveniences for operation. To address the aforementioned issues, the company upgraded all the original manually operated valves on site to automatically controlled valves, replaced the alkali preparation tanks with sealed storage tanks, added remote level detection, and introduced a DCS room; furthermore, an operation procedure for switching alkalis with one click was developed. After the one-button sealed alkali replacement system was put into use, the problem of interference-induced alarms from gas detectors was completely resolved, the workload on operators was reduced, and this provided a solid guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the enterprise.
