Seeking advice: Is it necessary to weld carbide onto the valve core and seat of a triple-eccentric butterfly valve? Do triple-eccentric butterfly valves only have hard seals and no soft seals?
Three-eccentric butterfly valves can be equipped with either hard seals or soft seals. Hard sealing typically involves the surfacing of the valve core and seat with cemented carbide to improve wear resistance and high-temperature performance. This format is suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature environments. At the same time, three-eccentric butterfly valves can also use soft seals; for example, elastic materials such as PTFE can be used as the sealing material. This approach is suitable for applications that require good sealing performance and where the temperature and pressure conditions are not extremely harsh. Therefore, three-eccentric butterfly valves do not necessarily require hard alloy surfacing, nor is a hard seal the only option available. .

Their valve seats typically use a hard-sealing design, and the valve disc and seat are welded with cemented carbide to enhance wear resistance and extend their service life. There are mainly 2 types of DISC sealing surfaces for three-eccentric butterfly valves: pure metal hard sealing and metal-lined soft sealing.
The material depends on the medium and operating conditions; +STL is not mandatory. Butterfly valves have soft seals, but they are generally made of composite materials; therefore, some manufacturers refer to this as a hard seal as well.
