Generally, air leakage in control valves can be resolved by tightening the packing; if there is no more room in the packing, then a bypass must be used to relieve pressure by closing the valve, after which the packing gland is loosened to add more packing or sealant.
What kind of gas is leaking from the valve stem you mentioned? If instrument air leakage is caused by wear of the actuator sealing component, the actuator sealing component should be replaced. If the process gas leakage is caused by a packing leak, the packing should be tightened or replaced. The approach for online processing should be determined specifically based on factors such as the type of valve, process conditions, and the role of the valve in the process.
