It is recommended to use turbine flowmeters or ultrasonic flowmeters, as these two types of flowmeters can provide high accuracy and stability when measuring gas flow rates. Specific brands to consider include Rosemount, Yokogawa, etc. .
For use on chimneys, a matrix flow meter can be employed to ensure accuracy; such meters are suitable for measuring flue gas, especially in CEMS systems. It’s just a bit more expensive.
Is a precision of 0.5% required for the flow rate on the chimney? Is it really necessary? The accuracy that can be achieved through simple instrument measurements of this level is only possible with Coriolis mass flow meters. With proper installation, such accuracy can be attained in actual operating conditions, but these devices are extremely expensive, making it impossible to use them on chimneys. Generally, by using a throttling element in combination with a differential pressure transmitter and following proper installation procedures, the overall accuracy can be maintained at 1%; the transmitter itself can achieve an accuracy of 0.5%. For chimneys, it’s appropriate to use an average velocity tube installed horizontally, along with a differential pressure transmitter, which will yield an accuracy of around 1%. This approach keeps the overall cost under control and makes installation straightforward.

I suspect that the original poster or the person in charge of their unit has no understanding at all of the concept of gas flow measurement; achieving a measurement accuracy of 0.5% is a very challenging task for most gas flow meters, and it also involves high costs.
