Recently, a meeting was held at Sinopec’s Tianjin branch to mark the deployment of this DCS system and to review the progress related to the development of domestically produced control systems for ethylene production in the 1.2 million tons per year ethylene and related high-end materials production complex in Tianjin Nangang (hereinafter referred to as the Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project). Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Sinopec Corporation Tianjin Branch, Hangzhou Hilscher Automation Co., Ltd. and other organizations, jointly carried out research on the topic of \"Application and Development of Domestic SIS Systems for Ethylene Plants.\" Through relentless efforts, they successfully developed domestic SIS engineering specifications and implementation standards for large-scale ethylene projects, and successfully applied domestic SIS systems to units such as ethylene cracking plants. Since its deployment in October 2023, the system has operated stably with an availability rate of 100%, marking the project as China’s first refining complex to achieve domestic production of SIS systems for ethylene production on a million-ton scale. The successful deployment of a 100% domestically produced DCS for the POE (polyolefin elastomer) plant, along with the successful acceptance of the domestically developed control system for ethylene production, not only provides reliable support for the long-term stable operation of these plants but also sets a replicable and scalable example for the autonomous development of China’s petrochemical industry. It holds significant importance as a model for enhancing the autonomy and control capabilities of the industrial chain and promoting the intelligent transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing sector. The POE unit is one of the main production units in the Tianjin Nangang ethylene project, and it is also a key production unit for Sinopec. This device uses the HOLLiAS MACS IC, a fully autonomous DCS system. This system has passed the 100% domestic production certification issued by the Fifth Electronics Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as well as the certification for compatibility with domestic innovation technologies; it is equipped with Loongson CPUs and the Kylin operating system, thereby achieving full autonomy across the entire chain, from core hardware to software ecosystems. The total number of points in the plant control system is 10,126. There are 14 pairs of controllers and 12 operator stations configured. It is fully compatible with existing Windows operating systems, foreign-chip I/O cards, information networks, as well as domestically produced DCS systems, enabling seamless data interoperability. Leveraging its years of technical expertise and industry experience in industrial automation, it has achieved several significant breakthroughs in the field of core control systems, thereby contributing to the goal of achieving 100% domestic production for the control systems involved in the project. The key technological achievements are as follows: A model case for the implementation of the OCS industrial optical bus control system. ● It was successfully applied on a large scale in ethylene cracker units, national fourth-generation equipment, and various auxiliary devices, with over 10,000 configuration points; ● Hikvision took the lead in collaborating with the owner and design firms to develop China’s first solution for the domestic production of generic I/O modules and intelligent wiring boxes for petrochemical plants, breaking the foreign technology monopoly and providing a new path for technological advancement in this industry. A 100% domestically developed DCS system sets a new standard in the industry. It has been successfully applied for the first time in petrochemical processing units in China, ensuring full autonomy and control over both the software and hardware of the system, as well as compatibility among multiple systems and seamless data exchange. In addition, this project incorporates a range of digital and intelligent technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, 5G + Beidou positioning, and intelligent control systems for the entire process, enabling a digital representation of physical factories, visual monitoring of on-site operations, and intelligent decision-making in production and management. At the same time, this factory has become the first unmanned smart laboratory and digital twin intelligent factory in China’s petrochemical industry, serving as an innovative model for the sector. In terms of green development, the project has also achieved significant results. It was the first in China to adopt a technology for the combined use of cold energy from LNG and ethylene production units, enabling the overall energy consumption of ethylene production to be among the lowest in such facilities; this approach allows for the savings of over 100 million kWh of electricity per year and a reduction of carbon emissions by 100,000 tons. Furthermore, the project was the first to apply mist-reducing and water-saving technology in the circulating water system, achieving a 15% increase in water savings compared to traditional technologies. In the future, the project will continue to introduce new energy sources such as photovoltaic power, with the goal of creating a \"green power plant\". As the flagship project of Sinopec’s high-end new materials project cluster in Tianjin Nangang, the Nangang ethylene project will make full use of its integrated capacity for 16 million tons per year of oil refining and 2.5 million tons per year of ethylene production. It will continue to contribute to the development of a world-class, high-tech, and integrated industrial base in Tianjin, thereby supporting the city’s economic and social progress.
