Hengli Petrochemical (Dalian)’s super-large multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification unit is operating at full capacity. Author/Source: China Chemical Industry News. Date: February 27, 2019. Clicks: 67. At the integrated refining and chemical processing site of Hengli Petrochemical (Dalian) Co., Ltd., the super-large multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification unit, developed jointly by East China University of Science and Technology and Yankuang Group Co., Ltd., has now reached full capacity operation following its successful first operation on February 15. A gasifier of this scale is the largest coal-water slurry gasifier in operation worldwide, with an effective gas output of 200,000 Nm3/h per unit. The successful operation of this multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification unit with an effective gas capacity of 200,000 Nm3/h per furnace represents a significant advancement in water-coal slurry gasification technology. It has provided valuable experience for more than 10 ongoing projects of this type in Inner Mongolia Rongxin, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Inner Mongolia HuiNeng, and other companies, all of which feature a functional gas capacity of 200,000 Nm3/h or higher per furnace. This technology offers an excellent solution for the construction of large-scale integrated refining and chemical plants as well as coal-based energy and chemical complexes in China. Moreover, it lays a solid foundation for the development and demonstration of gasification units capable of processing 4,000 tons of coal per day per furnace. It is reported that based on the existing gasifiers with a capacity of 160,000 Nm3/h of effective gas per unit, East China University of Science and Technology and Yankuang Group have successfully developed an ultra-large-scale multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification technology with a capacity of 200,000 Nm3/h of effective gas per unit, through the optimized design of the gasifier’s furnace structure. For Hengli Petrochemical’s 20 million tons per year integrated refining and chemical processing project, 6 upgraded multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasifiers with a diameter of 3.88 meters were installed. The gasification units put into operation this time supply raw gas not only for the hydrogen production line but also for various related chemical production lines. Gasification technology has evolved from early stages where the effective gas output per furnace was less than 50,000 Nm3/h or between 50,000 and 100,000 Nm3/h, to the current level of 200,000 Nm3/h per furnace. This advancement provides technical support for the clean and efficient utilization of coal, reduces investment costs in related facilities, and saves on operational and maintenance expenses. The Hengli 20 million tons per year integrated refining and chemical project is the first large-scale refining and chemical project opened up in China to private enterprises. It features continuous reforming and aromatic compounds production units as its core, along with MTBE, isomerization, and alkylation units. The project is designed to produce 4.5 million tons of aromatic compounds, 9.92 million tons of gasoline, diesel, and aviation kerosene per year, while also generating 1.62 million tons of light chemical oils, 970,000 tons of benzene, and 640,000 tons of liquefied gas annually. Once the project is put into operation, it will be the first in the industry to establish a complete industrial chain covering \"crude oil – aromatics – PTA – polyester\".
With a single furnace operating at full capacity, there is still a long way to go; to achieve operation of all 6 furnaces, as well as to reach the goal of 5 furnaces running at full capacity continuously, much work remains to be done.
