Our company uses a heat pump process with ammonia vaporization in a reboiler. However, the vapor temperature of concentrated ammonia is too high, around 80-90 degrees, which results in the release of large amounts of gas with an unpleasant odor. Using a heat exchanger can lead to clogging. I’m wondering if there are any good ways to address this issue with the unpleasant smell
Is there any way to prevent the smell from spreading?
Which organization are you with? I’ve worked with heat pump ammonia vaporization systems, where after the heat pump there is a floating head cooler that uses circulating water for cooling; it’s sufficient to control the temperature of the ammonia solution.
To what temperature can ammonia water reach? How to solve the crystallization problem?
Is the blockage caused by high oil content in the residual ammonia solution?
The temperature of the ammonia solution should be around 40-50; once crystallization occurs, it needs to be cleaned up

Crystallization occurs mainly when the acidic salts or gases present in the residual ammonia water escape from the ammonia distillation tower after the addition of alkali; upon cooling, these acidic gases react with ammonia water to form salts (with a small amount of oil being produced as well). If these acidic gases are removed, the concentration of ammonia water increases, and there is no risk of blockages or crystallization issues.
