On July 19, Unit C of the gasification plant at China Coal Yuanxing Company was scheduled for shutdown for maintenance. With this, Unit C has operated continuously for 229 days in a row, setting a new record for the longest consecutive operating period for a single gasification unit at the company.
According to China Coal Yuanxing Company, in 2020 the company strengthened the management of its equipment and production processes, drew on its operational experience, and made every effort to maintain stable production levels and increase sales. Multiple key performance indicators reached their best values ever, marking a new level of high-quality development for the company. First, the unit production cost of methanol is 1,343 yuan per ton, and the total cost is 1,617 yuan per ton, both reaching the lowest levels on record. Secondly, the average annual consumption per ton of methanol was 1.434 tons of raw coal, 0.312 tons of fuel coal, 8.67 tons of water, and 351 kilowatt-hours of electricity – all of which represent record lows. Third, some deficiencies in the comprehensive water treatment system were addressed, process control and production organization were improved, and the amount of water treated in the mine increased from 800 m3/h to 1050 m3/h, resulting in an annual average water intake that reached a record high. Fourth, the annual targets for cost reduction and efficiency improvement were exceeded; a total of 75.91 million yuan was saved in terms of costs and efficiency, representing 172% of the planned amount and setting a new historical record. Zhongmei Yuanxing Energy Chemical uses a methanol synthesis process developed by the Northwest Institute of Chemical Technology, which involves multi-component slurry gasification, as well as shaft-flow steam-type synthesis towers (SRC) and tube-cooled synthesis towers (TCC) from the British company Davy, to produce 600,000 tons of methanol per year. Put into operation in 2013.
