On March 29, construction of the 600,000-ton/year ethylene glycol production unit as part of the first phase of Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd.’s 1 million tons/year syngas-based ethylene glycol production project began in full force. According to the project’s production technology department, as of now, the procurement rate for the project’s equipment has reached over 92.8%, with all critical and long-production-cycle equipment having been ordered by the end of the previous year. By May, civil construction, equipment installation, and EPC auxiliary projects will be carried out in parallel, with over 3,600 workers involved in the construction work at that time. The biggest task for the preparatory team in 2018 is to ensure that the boiler is started up and put into operation by November 20, while also keeping the overall project schedule on track, so as to lay a solid foundation for achieving the overall goal of having the project operational by October 2019. While the civil engineering work is in full swing, Thirteen Chemical Construction is responsible for installing the circulating water pipelines; Donghua Technology is inspecting the materials used in the EPC turnkey project, and the project team of Deere Group is finalizing the installation plans. Various construction materials are being delivered to the site one after another. According to Wang Dongwei, the deputy on-site commander of the project, the headquarters of the preparatory team planned the overall progress of the project well in advance of its resumption, formulating a detailed reverse scheduling plan to accelerate the full rollout of the project construction. On March 16, the kick-off meeting for the auxiliary works of the 600,000-ton/year ethylene glycol production unit in the first phase of Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd.’s 1 million tons/year syngas-to-ethylene glycol project was held at the Tianye project department of Donghua Technology. At the end of November 2017, Donghua Technology won the bid for the EPC general contract of the air separation unit, boiler unit, desalinated water treatment system, and wastewater treatment system for Tianye’s 600,000-ton per year ethylene glycol production project. The scope of work under this contract included managing, procuring (except for those items purchased by Tianye Group), and constructing the air separation unit, boiler unit, desalinated water treatment unit, and water treatment system as part of this 600,000-ton per year ethylene glycol production project. The company was also responsible for all tasks up to the completion of mechanical installation and before the project was handed over, as well as providing technical guidance and support during the commissioning, trial operation, startup, and performance evaluation phases. The first phase of Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd.’s project to produce ethylene glycol from syngas at a capacity of 1 million tons per year involves a facility for producing 600,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year. The total investment in this project amounts to 799,721.60 million yuan. The construction site is located in the Shihu Tan New Materials Industrial Park (147th Regiment) in Shihezi, Xinjiang. Construction began in August 2017, with completion and operation expected by October 2019. In October 2017, the project’s gasification technology division entered into a contract with Shanxi Yangmei Chemical Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd. for four sets of 6.5MPa Jinhua furnaces model 3.0; the core process utilizes a patented technology for producing ethylene glycol from high-purity chemical synthesis gas. In 2017, Xinjiang Tianye invested in establishing a project company – Xinjiang Tianye Huihe New Materials Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of 2.5 billion yuan. This company is responsible for the construction and operation of the 600,000-ton/year ethylene glycol production unit as part of Tianye Group’s \"1 million tons/year syngas-based ethylene glycol production project, Phase I.\" Among them: Tianye Group contributes 1.75 billion yuan in cash, accounting for 70% of the registered capital ; Xinjiang Tianye Co., Ltd. contributes 750 million yuan in cash, accounting for 30% of the registered capital. Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd. currently has a production capacity of 250,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year from synthetic gas; 50,000 tons from the first phase and 200,000 tons from the second phase, with these capacities being put into operation gradually. The second-phase project is located in the North Industrial Zone of Shihezi, Xinjiang, and involves the construction of facilities for producing 200,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol and 170,000 tons per year of BDO, utilizing the off-gases from calcium carbide furnaces in the Xinjiang Tianye Chemical Industry Park as raw materials for comprehensive utilization.
