Why are three-bar valves used before and after the molecular sieve in air separation units, rather than butterfly valves or other types of valves?
You are referring to the switching valve in the purification unit’s switching system settings. The development of such valves is also constantly evolving. At first, there were those large, bulky cast-iron valves with a structure similar to that of throttle valves; later on, there appeared much lighter cast-iron plate butterfly valves, which are also widely used today. It seems that Denmark was the country that invented this three-link valve; its performance in all aspects makes it the best type of valve available today, and it is widely used in switching systems that require larger diameters. Other types of valves are not unusable; it’s just that for this application, large-diameter valves offer better performance parameters compared to other types of valves. (For reference)
