On June 10, drilling began on the first pile foundation in the boiler area of Hubei Sanning Chemical Co., Ltd.’s project aimed at adjusting the raw material structure for ammonia production and simultaneously producing 600,000 tons/year of ethylene glycol, marking the full start of construction on this project. It is reported that as of now, the earthwork work for the project is nearly complete; 60% of the dynamic compaction work has been finished, and the subgrade construction for the roads in the area in front of the factory has been completed. For the first batch of 80 pile foundations to be drilled this time, the contractor will deploy 8 pieces of equipment to complete the construction task within 10 days. On February 9, 2018, the groundbreaking ceremony for Hubei Sanning Chemical Co., Ltd.’s project to adjust the raw material structure for ammonia production and to produce 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol was held in the Yaojiagang Chemical Industrial Park in Zhijiang City. The total estimated investment for the project is 10 billion yuan, with a planned construction period of 24 months; completion and operation are expected by December 2019. The project utilizes Yankuang’s pressurized gasification of water-coal slurry, with the core process being the technology for producing ethylene glycol from high-purity chemical synthesis gas. Donghua Institute is responsible for the overall construction, and a contract for the air separation unit was also signed with Air Liquide. The Hubei Sanning Ammonia Synthesis Raw Material Structure Adjustment and 600,000 tons/year Ethylene Glycol Production Project (Phase I) is based on the 520,000 tons/year ammonia production capacity of Sanning Company’s urea plant and Tiantian Company’s plants. Without increasing this capacity, the existing urea production facilities that use bituminous coal as raw material and rely on atmospheric-pressure batch fixed-bed gasifiers, atmospheric-pressure desulfurization processes, and high-pressure ammonia synthesis, as well as the downstream urea and ammonium bicarbonate production units, are to be phased out. A new facility will be built using Shenhua’s high-quality coal as raw material to produce 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol and 520,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia ； Using sulfur as raw material, 800,000 tons per year of industrial-grade sulfuric acid is produced. The total investment for the project is 7.5 billion yuan. Hubei Sanning Chemical Co., Ltd. was formerly known as Zhijiang County Fertilizer Factory, and was established in 1970. In 1993, it was restructured as a state-controlled joint-stock company on a pilot basis, and in 2001 its ownership was privatized through the \"two swaps\" reform. In 2007, it came under the control of Shanxi Jincheng Non-Coking Coal Industry Group Co., Ltd., a large state-owned enterprise.
